Spider Webs for Katie

Bees, bees, bees.  I am really enjoying doing all these blocks for bees.  I am learning so much.  These spider web blocks are for Katie in the Bee Mod bee  I was a little intimidated by the idea at first but they are actually very easy to do.  I love the fabric combo Katie picked out, don't you?

 

New Quilt

I had some Riley Blake fabrics leftover from this quilt and I love them so much I decided to make another. 

 

I added some Robert Kaufman Kona cottons in grass, aqua and orange.  This is the first time I've used more than one fabric in the binding and I'm not sure I love it, but I do love the overall look of the quilt. 

I decided to stipple, mostly because I had it pinned before I thought about it and probably would have done some straight vertical lines if I had marked it beforehand.  My stippling needed practice anyway...and it sure is faster.

Well, I believe this one will be off soon, to a new little boy who will not be named here so his mama will be surprised!

 

My "Hipstaprints"

I have been messing around with Hipstamatic, an iphone photo app.  I really like the way it can turn an ordinary photo into something retro, which seems to immediately add a bit of sentimentality and art to it.

Here are some I took this weekend on a trip to Santa Barbara and a farm in Moorpark.

 
 

A Wearable Top

Well, at least I think it's wearable.  I'm wearing it.  What do you think?  I really need to learn how to pose for pictures.  It looks like I don't have full arms!

I used pattern #6179 from New Look.  Of course I didn't follow all the directions..I never do, though why, I don't know.  The pattern called for bias binding around the neck. I just folded it down to make the casing for the drawstring.  I also used the sleeve pattern that was supposed to be elasticized but that didn't work well for me. (maybe because the way I did the neckline shortened the armpit a bit?)  Anyway, I just hemmed the sleeves and I like them better this way.  I might try it again with a voile and a 3/4 sleeve.

The fabric is Lady of the Canyon by Alexander Henry and is clearly an homage to Joni Mitchell.  I had used this a few years ago to make little girls peasant blouses.  I loved it but ran out.  When I saw it again at ReproDepot, I had to get some.  It is discontinued and cost more because of it but I think it's worth it.  They still have some left I think, but hurry.
