Mira's Party

Mira turned 7!  As you may have read, we made the potholders for favors.  I wrapped each one around a wooden spoon and tied them with ric rac...then forgot to take a photo of them all in a bunch. :-(

We also made this garland out of paper plates:

The girls decorated aprons and chef hats...

 

 

They made pizza and cupcakes...

 

   

 and most Hawley parties are not complete without a bit of karaoke!

 

 

Flea Market Treasures!

I can't tell you how happy I am with my finds today at the Rose Bowl Flea Market and last week at the Santa Monica Airport Flea Market.  I love the bottoms of the green wine glasses.  Can you see them?

The yellow candleholders in particular are killing me!  I grabbed them and practically squealed with delight when I handed over a mere 20 bucks for the pair.  Here they are a little closer:

As we were walking out with the awesome bench below we were told by a very disappointed couple that they were just going back to check it out again...you snooze, you lose people!

I'm waiting for guests to come before I use these amethyst wine goblets I scored.  Aren't they fantastic?

 

But I am letting the kids enjoy ice cream out of these thicker/less fragile blue cuties.

And I know this magazine rack needed me and my Living Etc. magazines.

Sunday Slice, Cool Cardboard

I am loving my new recycled cardboard wreath from Cardboard Safari.   And until Valentine's Day all of the proceeds from heart wreaths and boxes are being donated to Haitian relief.  I also bought this one and am considering putting a few of these over my bed!

Lights and decorations have started to go up!  I love the big Christmas balls from Target that we hung from the trellis.

Gray Can Be Happy

I am starting to love gray.  Not gray skies, really, but gray stuff.  Especially mixed with yellow like in this fabric I just ordered from Scarlet Fig:

Sunday Slice, Nov. 15

This is part of Beckett's space.  He shares a room with big sister MIra. The orange rug circles and light fixture are from IKEA.  The sea animal cards on the wall are from Wee Gallery. 

 

 The stuffed robot is Kalvin from Kauzbots.

And sometimes, they do yoga!

 

Sunday Slice, Nov. 8

This is (mostly) where we eat.  The Saarinen table was a total splurge from DWR but I will never regret it.   I love the design and EVERYTHING comes off this table...glue, sharpie, pencil...etc.  It's pretty indestructible.  A little soft scrub with bleach gets out even the scariest marks (sharpie).  The chairs are from IKEA and are remarkably comfortable. They bounce a bit and the curve in the back is just right.  I made the cushion covers (blogged here). The carpet tiles are from FLOR. Again, indestructible. For holiday events I am just going to add on a rectangular folding table and some tablecloths since the table only seats 8.

Monday Home Slice?

Yes, I failed to deliver the Sunday Slice, but it should taste just as nice on Monday, right?

Now, don't be too quick to judge!  Let me explain why this lovely poster hangs in my kitchen corner above the toddler art table.  This poster was in an episode of The Unusuals that my husband wrote.  In that episode the police uncover a secret "Murder Store."  Well, you have to get your supplies somewhere, don't you?  How handy to have them all in one place where no records will be kept!  Anyway, this poster, a play on the usual "How To Help A Choking Victim" posters was hanging in the store.  

The lovely folks at the show had it framed for us.  The kids do know it's from the show and that it's a joke, albeit a morbid one.  We also have these on our living room bookshelves.

 

And imagine the look on our housekeeper's face when she found these cleaning supplies!
